Terms and Conditions

By booking onto one of my ('The Book Professional') The Book Rescuer's Club workshops, you (the 'student') agree to all of the following terms and conditions. Your agreement will be confirmed by you at the checkout when you purchase a workshop to attend.


These terms and conditions are in place to ensure the smooth running of the workshops, the safety of all participants, and respect for the materials and instruction provided.


Novice Workshop Details


  • Each workshop runs over six consecutive weeks, with one session per week.
  • Workshops are held in person, at the address detailed for each workshop.
  • All essential book repair materials and tools will be provided as part of the course.
  • Lunch and refreshments will be provided by an on-site 3rd party caterer, unless otherwise detailed in the course booking.
  • Any specific dietary requirements need to be notified to The Book Professional at the time of booking.
  • Any catering issues that arise during the workshop, the student will need to be speak direct with the caterer.
  • Workshop courses are intended to provide the student with the knowledge and skills to carry out book repairs for themselves within the scope of the workshop details of 'You Will Learn How To' available to view on The Book Professional website course booking page. These workshops do not guarantee that the student will reach any particular standard.


Booking and Payment


  • All bookings for courses are made through The Book Professional website course booking page.
  • Full payment is required at the time of booking to secure a student place.
  • Spaces are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • A student workshop space will only be allocated on the course the student has selected and paid for through The Book Professional website course booking page.


Cancellations & Refunds


Understanding that plans can change, The Book Professional course cancellation policy is as follows:


  • More than 4 weeks notice: Full refund of workshop fees paid.
  • Between 4 weeks and 48 hours notice: 50% refund of workshop fees paid.
  • Less than 48 hours notice: No refund will be given of workshop fees paid.
  • If a student cancels a workshop session, these will not be carried forward to a future workshop (without commitment, alternative arrangement can be discussed with The Book Professional).
  • If the student decides to withdraw from the course for any reason, they must notify The Book Professional at the earliest opportunity.
  • If the workshop is cancelled for any reason by The Book Professional, a full workshop fee refund will be issued within 30 days of the cancellation, or at The Book Professional's discretion, an alternative place will be offered on a future workshop.
  • For any cancellations by the student or The Book Professional, The Book Professional is not responsible for any costs the student has incurred associated with 3rd party providers such as, but not limited to, travel and accommodation.
  • Please also read the 'Exceptional Events' section below for other cancellation circumstances.


Exceptional Events


  • In the circumstance of an exceptional event that can not be reasonably anticipated or controlled, which prevents or hinders the ability to hold the workshop or be able provide an obligation of the course, The Book Professional will not be under any liability whatsoever.
  • If an exceptional event occurs, The Book Professional will endeavour to notify the student(s) affected, or the affected student(s) will notify The Book Professional at the earliest opportunity. 
  • In the case of an exceptional event where (a) student(s) fails to attend a workshop session, or attends late, if the course proceeds, at The Book Professionals discretion, a full or partial refund or credit may be given.


Personal Property & Safety


  • The student will be required to bring their own book(s) to work on during the workshop course.
  • Students are responsible for their own personal property, and whilst all efforts will be made to keep personal property safe in the workshop classroom, the classroom is in a publicly accessed building.
  • Valuable and personal belongings should not be left unattended, as The Book Professional cannot accept liability for any loss or damage for any items that are left unsupervised in the workshop.
  • All students agree to follow all health and safety procedures and notices relevant to the workshop location.
  • Please note that a sharp tool eg craft knives are used during the workshop. Safety instructions will be given at each stage, and student cooperation is essential.
  • Students are not to use equipment for which they have not been instructed how to use.
  • The Book Professional holds appropriate public liability insurance, however all students are responsible for their own safety and wellbeing during the workshop sessions, and must follow all instructions carefully for own and others safety.


Learning Agreement and Code of Conduct


By booking a workshop the student is entering into a learning agreement between The Book Professional and the workshop student.


  • To ensure a safe, enjoyable and conducive learning environment for all students:


  • Regular attendance and punctuality is essential for student success to be able to learn the knowledge and skills during the workshop.
  • All students  are expected to be respectful, attentive, and engaged throughout each session.
  • All student are expected to listen carefully to all instructions, especially when using sharp or delicate tools.
  • Any student behaviour deemed disruptive, unsafe, or disrespectful may result in that student being asked to leave the workshop without recourse and refund.


Student Wellbeing


  • Students should, at the time of booking, notify The Book Professional of any allergies, disabilities, mental health issues or special educational needs that they may have.


Complaints


The Book Professional strives to provide a supportive and enjoyable learning experience for every student. However, if something isn’t quite right, The Book Professional wants to hear about it so it can be put it right.


  • If a student has any concern(s) about the workshop they are attending; teaching they are receiving; or other student behaviour(s), they should:
  • Speak to The Book Professional directly. If the student feels comfortable, please speak to The Book Professional during or after the class, to resolve the issue quickly and informally.
  • Submit a Written Complaint, if preferred or if the matter wasn’t resolved in person, you can email your complaint to: caroline@thebookprofessional.co.uk
    Please include:

Student's full name.

The date of the class or incident.

A description of the issue.

What the student would like the outcome to be.

  • Resolution:
  • The Book Professional will work with the student to resolve the issue fairly and reasonably. This may include a discussion, follow-up communication, or where appropriate, an offer of compensation (such as a partial refund or class credit).
  • Final Step:
  • As a sole tutor, I am the final point of resolution. I am committed to handling all complaints with care, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Negative Feedback:
  • The Book Professional welcomes all constructive feedback, as it helps improve the workshop experience for everyone. If the student has any suggestions or feels that something didn’t meet their expectations, please do the following:

Share it privately: Email The Book Professional directly or speak after class. Student honesty is truly valued.

Be specific: Let The Book Professional know what could be improved, and how it affected the student's experience.

Know the student will be heard: The Book Professional takes feedback seriously and uses it to make thoughtful changes where possible.

Public feedback (such as on social media or reviews) is always the student's right. If a student is unhappy,  kindly give The Book Professional a chance to resolve it first.

 
Photography and Promotion


  • Occasionally, photos may be taken during workshops for promotional purposes. If the student would prefer not to be photographed notify The Book Professional at the earliest opportunity.
  • The student may wish to take photos during a session to aid with their learning, however these photos can not be used for their own commercial purposes, and permission must be sought with any persons in the photos before posting to social media or any online or printed publications.


Copyright


  • All course materials, images and photographs used in The Book Rescuer's Club workshops, or on The Book Professional website, which are deemed as owned by The Book Professional, are copyright and therefore, must not be copied or reproduced in any form under any circumstances without the express permission of The Book Professional.


The Book Professional Insurance, Public Liability and Indemnity Policy


The Book Professional has relevant insurance through specialist broker TL Dallas & Co Ltd (Devonshire Square, London).


UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR) Statement


At The Book Rescuer’s Workshops, student privacy is important. This GDPR statement explains how The Book Professional collects, uses, and protects student's personal data in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).


What information Is collected? 


  • When a student books a course or contacts The Book Professional, the information that may be collected is:

Student name

Student email address

Student phone number

Any relevant information the student provides about interests or accessibility needs

  • This information may be collected directly from the student, or through the online booking system used to manage workshop bookings.


Use of an Online Booking System


  • To manage workshop bookings, I use a secure third-party booking platform (IONOS). This platform collects your information on my behalf and securely stores it for the purposes of confirming your place, processing payments, and managing communication related to your booking.
  • The provider of this system complies with UK GDPR and only processes your data according to The Book Profressional instructions.


How Your Information Is Used?


  • Student information is used to:

Process and confirm the student's workshop booking

Contact the student about course details or changes

Send relevant updates or future course information (only if the student opts in)


How Your Data Is Stored?


  • Student data is stored securely on the booking platform. The Book Professional never sells or shares student personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.


Your Rights?


  • Students have the right to:

Access the personal data held about them

Request correction or deletion of their data

Withdraw their consent at any time

Law


These terms and conditions, and any contract concluded between a student and The Book Professional, and any dispute in contract or tort in connection with the services provided by The Book Professional shall be governed by English law.
